Becoming happy neuro heroes
Other
Your photos, comments, shares, and posts stay forever in cyberspace. For you to become a Happy Neuro Hero, you need to make wise choices when it comes to your online presence.
Selfies
A selfie is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a digital camera which may be held in the hand or supported by a selfie stick. Selfies are often shared on social networking services such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. They are for vanity usually flattering and made to appear casual. (Source: Wikipedia)
Selfies are actually as dangerous as sharks. Selfies can become an addiction if you attach your self-worth to the number of likes you get. It could signal a need for attention. The peculiar thing is that selfies make you less relatable and less likeable.
Selfies can also make you less employable. You could even lose your job if you post too many selfies.
Technology addiction and eating disorders
The same neurotransmitters in the same area of the brain impact addiction and eating disorders. Research shows that some 50% of individuals who are diagnosed with eating disorders (such as Anorexia) also battle with drug or alcohol addiction. And now addiction to technology has been added to the list. There are also online “support” groups that may have a negative impact on an individual’s perception of his or her body image.
Online suicide games
“A depressed youngster comes across a social media group called Blue Whales. The group encourages him to take his life. It also promises to make his exit from this world fun by turning the suicide into a thrilling game. After signing up, the youngster is assigned daily tasks for the next 50 days. It includes inflicting self-injury, watching horror movies, waking up at odd hours to wrap the task and even carving a whale shape on the arms. The task keeps getting tougher with each passing day. On the last (50th day), the game admin asks the youngster to commit suicide. Those who want to back out on the last day are threatened that their family members will be hurt if they don’t abide by the game rules. There is no exit.” (Source: hindustantimes.com)
Health risks
Wireless technology poses massive health risks. Research shows that wireless devices like cell phones are the cause of cancer in some patients. The radiofrequency that mobile phones emit could also be the reason for brain damage in young children and teenagers.
